North Shore is about 200 homes between Corio Bay and the industrial estates, one of the smallest suburbs in Geelong and easy to miss between Norlane and Corio. Small does not mean simple: within these few streets we found three different nbn technologies, and the houses span a century of construction.
The North Shore internet pattern.
The defining fact is the mix. When we ran North Shore addresses through the nbn database in July 2026, Seabeach Parade addresses came back FTTN, The Esplanade came back FTTC with the full-fibre upgrade orderable, and the newest lots on Seabeach Parade are FTTP from day one. Three technologies in a suburb of about 200 homes means what your neighbour gets tells you almost nothing about your own address, and the right plan for your house depends on which of the three you actually have.
The housing does the rest. The older streets are interwar and post-war workers’ homes built when the Ford plant across Melbourne Road employed half the district, and they follow the classic pattern: phone point in the hallway, modem in the worst spot in the house, and brick or timber walls between the router and the rooms people actually use. The newer infill near the water is built for the bay views, which often means the router lands wherever the builder terminated the cabling, not where the WiFi needs it.
Renters are half this suburb.
About 45% of North Shore households rent, well above the Geelong norm, and rentals almost always run the ISP-default router in the spot the socket dictates. The good news is that most of what goes wrong with WiFi here is fixable without touching the building: placement, channel planning, and gear you own and take with you when you move. We are careful to keep the fix on the tenant’s side of the wall.
What a visit looks like.

The visit takes around 90 minutes: heat maps of the house, real speed tests in every room you use, a check of which nbn technology your address actually has, and a clear-eyed look at the gear you already own. What we won’t do.
We will not sell you a new router to fix a placement problem, and we will not guess your nbn technology from the postcode when the address checker gives a real answer in seconds. If the honest fix is “move the router and change nothing else”, that is the report you will get.
