WiFi at a North Geelong address depends on the era of the house, the materials in the walls, and which connection technology reached the kerb. We measure all three.

You can usually predict the WiFi from the house. Post-war weatherboards and brick veneers on bigger blocks than Geelong West, with a strip of light industrial along Thompson Road. The construction era, the wall materials, the floorplan — they all do more to your signal than your router does.

The newer estate pockets here are on full fibre, which is not what the older streets would lead you to expect, so it is worth checking your own address rather than assuming. On one fibre install the connection would not come up at all until the service was moved to the right port on the nbn box, which is a common trap on a new fibre connection and nothing to do with the WiFi. The other thing we found was an extender doing more harm than good, badly placed and misconfigured, leaving a gap at the front of the house it was supposed to be covering.
