Frequently asked questions.

Common questions
Is the $199 including GST?
+
Yes. $199 flat, GST included. That is the whole price for the visit and the written report, with no call-out fee, no travel charge and nothing added at the end. Hardware, if you choose to buy any, is quoted separately in writing.
Do I pay anything when I book?
+
No. Booking takes no card details and no deposit. You pay the $199 inc GST on the day, once the visit is done. The written report follows within 24 hours either way.
How can I pay?
+
Bank transfer to the account on your invoice, card (Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay) through the secure link on your invoice, or cash on the day. We do not add a surcharge for paying by card, so the amount on the invoice is the amount you pay.
What if I need to cancel or move my appointment?
+
Give us 24 hours or more and there is no charge at all: reschedule or cancel, your choice, and nothing has been paid up front anyway. Under 24 hours, 50% of the assessment fee applies. If nobody is there on the day and we have not heard from you, the full fee applies. Tell us as early as you can and we will almost always find you another slot.
What does the $199 assessment actually include?
+
About 90 minutes on site. Heat maps for every room, speed tests at every device location, channel and band analysis, a full WiFi survey, plus a written report within 24 hours. Honest recommendations included, even if the recommendation is "don't spend money".
How long does the visit take?
+
About 90 minutes on site for a typical home. The online calendar blocks a wider window than that on purpose, so we are never rushed and never late for the person after you. Bigger homes, double-storey homes and properties with a shed or studio take a little longer.
Do I have to be home?
+
Yes, you or another adult needs to be there. We need to get into the rooms that give you grief, ask what you actually use the network for, and hand back the answer in person before we leave. It is your house and your gear, so nothing gets changed without you seeing it.
Who turns up?
+
Karl. He does every site visit himself. Bookings, invoices and follow-up messages are handled by our office, so the person who answers a message is not always the person who arrives, but the person who arrives is always Karl.
What if you cannot fix it?
+
You still get the measurements, the report and a straight answer about what is actually causing it, which is often the provider or the line rather than your WiFi. Everything we do fix is backed by 30 days of free follow-up: if something we fixed is not behaving as the report describes, we come back at no extra charge. That covers our work. It cannot cover an internet provider fault, an nbn outage, or changes someone else makes after our visit. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
I have already bought an extender. Was that a waste of money?
+
Not necessarily, but a cheap extender usually halves the speed of whatever it rebroadcasts and adds a second network name you have to switch between by hand, so it often makes things feel worse rather than better. Sometimes it can be re-sited or reconfigured and earn its keep. We work that out from the measurements.
Do you sell hardware, or just diagnose?
+
Both. Where new gear is genuinely needed, we recommend specific products and install them as part of the price. Where it isn't needed, we'll tell you. We'd rather lose a sale than oversell. If you go ahead with hardware through us, the $199 covers the install labour, so the install invoice is hardware only.
Which areas do you cover?
+
Geelong, the Surf Coast, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Golden Plains region, and the Colac Otway region. If you are within about 60 minutes of central Geelong, we come to you, at the same flat price. There is no shopfront and no travel charge.
What are your hours?
+
Calls and texts 7am to 8pm, every day. Site visits Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. You can book online at any hour, and we confirm your time by text.
How quickly can you come out?
+
Usually within a week. Same-week appointments are normal. Same-day is sometimes possible, so call if it is urgent.
What if my problem isn't actually WiFi?
+
We figure that out as part of the assessment. We measure the connection coming into the house separately from the WiFi inside it, so we can tell you which side the fault is on. Often it turns out to be the internet plan itself, or one misbehaving device. We diagnose first, recommend second.
Do you do business WiFi too, or just homes?
+
Both. Small businesses and home offices are a solid share of our work, and holiday rentals are another. Business jobs are quoted in writing after an on-site assessment rather than sold off a price list.
What's your background?
+
Karl Misso founded Why Oh WiFi. 20+ years in IT, 16 of them at Apple Australia. Local Geelong family. The business trades as Why Oh WiFi Pty Ltd, is registered for GST and carries insurance.
