Fairhaven WiFi problems rarely start with the router. They start with a house that is empty for 40 weeks a year and expected to perform perfectly for the other 12.
The Fairhaven WiFi pattern.
The 2021 Census counted about 550 dwellings here and only 160 of them occupied on census night. That ratio drives everything. The most common Fairhaven setup is a holiday house where the internet was installed once, years ago, and nobody looks at it until the family walks in on a Friday night in January and finds it dead. The fix is not a better router so much as a better design: gear the owner can see and restart from home, and a guest network that visitors cannot break.
The houses themselves do their bit too. This stretch of the Great Ocean Road is full of architect beach houses built for the view: glass walls, steel frames, split levels stepping down the dune. All of it is hard country for WiFi, and the answer is measuring where the signal actually goes rather than adding pucks and hoping.

Fairhaven runs on FTTN copper fed from the Anglesea serving area, and the copper runs are long this far down the coast, so two neighbours can sync at very different speeds on the same plan. The genuinely useful news is that the on-demand full-fibre upgrade program went live here in January 2024. When we checked addresses on the nbn rollout data, they were eligible to order the upgrade, and some streets have already been flipped to FTTP. If your Fairhaven internet has always felt slow, that upgrade is worth investigating before you spend a cent on new gear, and we will tell you straight if it is the better path. Fairhaven is a fair drive out for us, and the whole Great Ocean Road strip is inside the service area. The visit runs about 90 minutes: heat maps in every room, real speed tests at the spots you actually use, and a straight answer on whether the problem is the line, the WiFi, or the way the house is built. Written report within a day, in plain English, ranked by what matters.
